American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 installs new officers
Remine Moss was selected Member of the Year.

The Warren F. Hoyle American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 in Shelby installed officers for the 2019-2020 Auxiliary year at their June 17, 2019 meeting. Shirley H. Thompson conducted the official Installation Ceremony. Re-elected to their positions were Linda Quinlan, President; Rebecca Higgins, Secretary; and Martha Bridges, Treasurer/Historian. New officers elected were Denise Smith, Vice President (who was unable to attend the meeting); Patsy Rountree, Chaplain; and Carol Beck, Sergeant-at-Arms.
After installation, President Quinlan addressed members on information learned at the recent Auxiliary state convention in Raleigh, and shared news of several awards the unit received. Historian Martha Bridges' Unit 82 Scrapbook was awarded first place. The Unit also received a framed certificate and monetary award for having the most outstanding Public Relations Program in the state.
On the local level, it has been a tradition to annually select one member as the Unit 82 Member of the Year. The award this year went to Remine Moss who has worked tirelessly to serve veterans and the community, and faithfully participates in all unit activities.
The members of Auxiliary Unit 82 will be participating at The American Legion Baseball World Series events in August, staff an Auxiliary information booth at the city's 7th Inning Stretch Festival, and assist at the Little Miss World Series Pageant.
The American Legion Auxiliary is the nation's oldest and largest womens' patriotic organization, and will celebrate its' 100th birthday this November. For more information about the organization or membership opportunities, contact Linda Quinlan at jlquinlan@att.net.
