Cynthia Jeter Moses

Mrs. Cynthia Jeter Moses, 78, of Shelby, NC passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Atrium Health-Mercy in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Lincoln County, NC on August 28, 1941 to the late Earl Jeter and Robbie Ashley Jeter.

Cynthia grew up in the Flat Rock community in Shelby. She attended Cleveland School and was a lifelong member of Eskridge Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Her family, her church and her work in childcare were the three pillars of her life. She grew up as one of seven children born to Robbie and Earl Jeter. Later, she married John Moses in 1973 and then gave birth to a son, Ryan.

Most of her time as a childcare worker was spent at Wesson's Day Care Center. First, she was a staff member for almost 20 years and later its owner for another 20 years after the original owner passed away. While owning the daycare, she also earned an Associate's degree in Child Development from Cleveland Community College.

Even in retirement, children were central to her life as she volunteered almost every day until her health would not allow it. She was part of the Foster Grandparent Program at Jefferson Elementary School and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland County. For 50 years, Cynthia Moses touched the lives of thousands of children in Shelby, Cleveland County and beyond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robbie and Earl Jeter; husband, John Moses; brothers, William Jeter, Robert Earl Jeter and Larry Jeter and sisters, Patricia Cherry and Linda Sloan.
