The City of Kings Mountain is hoping that you will come "Home for Christmas," even if Kings Mountain isn't your hometown. The celebration, now in its second year, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec.14, and Saturday, Dec. 21 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. each evening in downtown Kings Mountain near Patriots Park.

"'Home for Christmas' will provide an enjoyable and memorable holiday season for all, as families, kids and visitors experience the sights and sounds of Christmas as they navigate through the downtown area," says Christy Conner, special events director for the City of Kings Mountain.

"Railroad Avenue will be full of festive cheer. Children of all ages can visit Santa and his elves in Santa's workshop. Carolers will sing throughout the streets, and a downtown Holiday Market and Winter Wonderland Garden will feature vendors and attractions."

The Santa's workshop area will feature a "Journey to the North Pole" in an interactive walk-through experience for children (young and young-at-heart) and their families. This free attraction includes an immersive scenic design, elves, toys that magically come to life, a "Letter to Santa" mailbox, and an opportunity to meet with Santa himself. Professional photos of your experience will be available to purchase.

The Holiday Market will feature a wide variety of Christmas vendors on South Railroad Avenue between 238 Cherokee Grill and the Joy Performance Center.

"There will be food, clothing, jewelry, crafts and so much more," says Conner. "We hope folks will bring their friends and support local artisans. They can fill all of their loved ones' stockings with something you know they'll love!"

Carriage and train rides are also back by popular demand, according to Conner. The cost of carriage rides is $5, with ages 2 and under riding for free. Train rides will cost $2.

"A magnificent display of Christmas lights will greet visitors to Patriots Park," says Conner. "In fact, the lights in the park were once owned by Grady and Katie Costner and have been on display in Kings Mountain for 30 years."

Another display of lights, the Fantasy Light Show, will will be back this year as well.To view the Fantasy Light Show, visitors are encouraged to park on South Battleground Avenue and tune in to radio station 87.9 FM to enjoy the synchronized light show with music playing from the car radio.

Both the Patriot Park lights and the Fantasy Light show displays will be available for viewing throughout the Christmas season, until Dec. 31, 2019.
