 Austin Earl Kennedy
 
 
 Mr. Austin Earl Kennedy, 78, of 104 Whaley Street, Shelby, died Friday, 
November 25, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. 
 
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Austin Victor Kennedy and 
Maggie Corene Wallace Kennedy.  Mr. Kennedy was a member of Royster Avenue 
Church of God and  retired from  the  Air Force as a tech sergeant.  While 
in military he worked as a flight engineer with the Military Air Transport 
Service.  After retiring Mr. Kennedy enjoyed farming and was owner of 
Kennedy and Sons Septic Tank Service. 
 
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by  a son, 
Jimmy Kennedy and grandson, Terry Childers Jr. 
 
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife, Blanche Rumphrey Kennedy; sons and 
daughters-in-law, Wayne and Illona Kennedy of Lawndale and David and Penny 
Kennedy of Indian Head, Maryland; daughters and son-in-law, Joyce Kennedy of 
Shelby and Nancy and David Miller of Bessemer City; brother, J. W. Kennedy 
of Grover; sisters, Sue Powell of St. Petersburg, Florida and Jean Dover of 
Grover; grandchildren, Dana West, Mark Kennedy, Paul Kennedy, Joshua 
Kennedy, Joel Kennedy, Daniel Dittman, Jamie Stevens, Lisa Ledford and 
Leslie Mauney and great grandchildren, Brandon West, Darian West, Alexandria 
Kennedy, Jordan Cough and Dalton Kennedy. 
 
Visitation: 6 - 8 pm Monday at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.  
 
Funeral: 11:00 am Tuesday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard 
Shores and Rev. David Kennedy offficiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill 
Memorial Park in Fallston.
