This was a special day as our GWU Fishing Club participated in its first club tournament at Moss Lake on November 12, 2011.  The Fishing Club at Gardner-Webb University is in its 3rd year of existence and is looking forward to competing in FLW Collegiate Fishing Tournaments in 2012. Ten anglers and five boaters launched from the Moss Lake landing on a foggy, chilly 30 degree morning hoping to catch a live well full.   The tournament was made even more special for these college students as the likes of local FLW Pros Matt Arey and Bryan Thrift joined the tournament as official boaters for these young anglers.  We also want to say a big “thank you” to boaters Jeremy Mikell, John Davis, Junior Price, and Dr. Shonna Snyder for spending their time taking these guys and gals out on the lake.  Angler teams of two were competing for the First Place Trophies, Damiki Fishing Tackle Gift Bags, Ranger Hat/T-Shirt combos, and Tackle Warehouse apparel.
These types of events would not be possible without the help of our official 2011-2012 sponsors, One Stop Food Stores, Davis Hearing Center, Damiki Fishing Tackle, GWU Campus Shop, Smoke on the Square, FleetNet America, Inc., Tackle Warehouse, and Bulldog Quik Snak.  Lunch was generously provided by Smoke on the Square (Shelby, NC), and the fees for the one-day fishing licenses for the anglers was covered by donors Dr. Terry and Linda Fern. Jeremy Fern, advisor for the Club and tournament coordinator, said, “Our Club is blessed to have the talent of local pros Thrift and Arey right down the street from Gardner-Webb University.  And the fact that these guys, as well as our other boaters and sponsors, would take the time to give these college anglers an experience of a lifetime speaks to their character and generosity.”
