Lawndale - Mrs. Betty Benfield Cooke, 83, of 311 Ward Street passed away
Sunday, July 5, 2015 at her home.

Born in Cleveland County on March 31, 1932, she was a daughter of the late
Fonzo Wallace Benfield and Lula Jane Towery Benfield. Mrs. Cooke was a
member of Lawndale Baptist Church. After leaving Cleveland Mills, she became
a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother, and she also cared for numerous
children in the community.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooke was preceded in death by her husband,
Walter Cooke; son, Gary Cooke; daughter, Terry McMurry; brothers, Harold
Benfield, Marion Benfield, Dwight Benfield , and Gene Benfield; and sisters,
Nettie Ward, Edith Ledford, Bessie Queen, Mildred Eskridge, and Helen Wease.

Mrs. Cooke is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kay Cooke of
Lawndale; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Robert Blanton of Shelby and
Jina and Robert Shaffer of Fallston; sister, Joan Machlet of Spotsylvania,
Virginia; grandchildren, Seann Blanton, Julie Lookadoo, Melinda Hinson,
Brandon McMurry, Elliott McMurry, Brian Cooke II, Andrew Cooke, Hayley
Brady, Garrett Holland, Christopher Crowe, Taylor Crowe and Madison Shaffer;
twenty-two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also
survived by numerous loving extended family, friends and special neighbors

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at
Lawndale Baptist Church. A guest register is available at

The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Lawndale Baptist Church with Rev.
Jim Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Tree United Methodist
Church in Lawndale.
