Blanche Margaret Smith Maida, 89 of Shelby passed away, Wednesday, November
16, 2016 at White Oak Manor.

Born August 23, 1927 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late
David Valentine Smith and Sarah Rachel Ledford Smith. She was previously
employeed at Belview Hospital, New York and retired from Long Island Jewish
Hospital in New York and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George
Francis Maida; seven brothers, Hubert, Thomas (Bee), Guy, David, Donald,
Clyde, and Fred; and five sisters, Cynthia, Zoolie, Hettie, May and Goldie.

Survivors include a son, George Maida of Richmond, VA; daughter, Patti
Carpenter and husband, Robert of Shelby; four grandchildren, David Christian
Carpenter and wife, Jessica, Ashley Carpenter Almanza and husband, Ray,
Michael Clifton Carpenter and Rachel Georgianna Carpenter; three
great-grandchildren, Carly Elizabeth Carpenter, Logan Ray Almanza and Owen
Almanza; and two sisters-in-law, Florence Arcidiocno and Louise Tock and
husband, Edward.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Mary's
Catholic Church, Shelby, NC.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic
Church with Rev. Father Michael Kottar officiating.

Burial will follow in Westview Gardens in Bessemer City at 1:00 PM, Monday.
