On Thursday, August 18^th, 2011, at Kings Mountain Hospice House, the sun set for Christine Cooke, 83, of Shelby.  She was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Greene Gamble.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Dennis D. Cooke, Sr.; two sisters; and four brothers.  Christine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelby, a member of the Eastern Star Lodge 110, and was always volunteering to help others.  She loved to travel, listen and sing to music, be with her family, and always put others first.  She will be remembered by her family and friends as a special and kind person with a strong faith.

Mrs. Cooke is survived by her four children, Dennis Cooke, Jr. of Earl, Scott Cooke and wife Patti of Earl, Teresa Capps and husband Bob of Valrico, Fl, Christopher Cooke of Shelby;  a brother, Lawson Gamble and wife Martha of Forest City; Grandchildren, Wesley Cooke and wife Regina and Brooke Cooke of Patterson Springs, Travis Capps and Ashley Capps of Valrico, Fl; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Shelby.  The Rev. Tony Tench and the Rev. Perry Holleman will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30pm on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. At other times the family will be at the home, 203 South Poston Street, Shelby.
