Born May 7, 1921 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Acie Downs
and Lonie Price Downs. Mr. Downs was retired as a farmer and from the
sawmill. He also worked for Cleveland County Schools in the maintenance
department as a custodian and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah
Hudson Downs; infant son, Hudean Downs; brother, Roy Lee Downs and sister,
Gueirl Newton.
Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Ethel Downs, Lee
and Dot Downs, Bobby and Cathy Downs, Donald and Kay Downs, Wayne Downs and
Randy and Sherry Downs all of Casar; three daughters and sons-in-law, Macie
and Jerry Brackett of Casar, Joann and Donald Davis of Fallston and Cathy
and Jimmy Cline of Hickory; brother, Gilbert Downs of Denver; three sisters,
Versey Cooke and Beatrice Spencer both of Shelby and Bernice Wright of
Lawndale, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild.
Visitation: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Saturday, Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Sunday, Corinth Baptist Church, Casar. The body
will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.
Officiating: Revs. Tripp Spangler, Cecil Buff and Norris Willis
Burial: Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Casar
