Edward Jack Nolen

Edward Jack Nolen, age 89 of W. 2^nd St. died Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby. He was born on June 29, 1925 in Knoxville, TN. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church and a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M., and member of American Legion Post #100. He was a graduate of Newton Conover High School, retired from Carolina Freight, and an avid golfer. Jack was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Sue Yancey Nolen; children, Mary Lane McGinnis and husband, Tony of Knoxville, TN, Edward Keith Nolen and wife, Lynne of Lincolnton, and Allyson Prescott and husband, Phil of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, John McGinnis and wife, Tarin, Valerie McGinnis, Amy McGinnis, Grayson Nolen, Katie Nolen, Mary Kate Bobbitt, Meredith Bobbitt, Meghan Bobbitt, Amelia Bobbitt, and Phillip Prescott; great grandson, Cameron McGinnis; and half-brother, Scott Helms of Newton.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rick Fite officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 to 11:45 AM prior to the service at the church.
