Elaine Odenath Garrett age 89 died Tuesday February 11, 2014 at Hospice Kings Mountain. Born on January 23, 1925 in Morristown NJ, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Cornelia Flanagan Odenath. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and she was a former member of Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia for 35 years, where she taught Sunday School. She went back to Gardner Webb College at the age of 43 and earned her RN degree. She worked at Gaston Memorial in the ICU and retired at the age of 68. Elaine loved helping children learn to read and volunteered at Sherwood Elementary School. Elaine enjoyed reading, traveling, doing ceramics, knitting and entertaining. In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Garrett, Jr. and her beloved pet, “Cody”

Elaine is survived by her son, Larry Garrett and wife Nan of Greenville; a daughter, Susan Robinson and husband Mike of Shelby; four grandchildren, Heather Garrett, Jennifer Schoolfield and husband Matt, Richard Robinson and wife Nikki, and Meredith Dent and husband Billy; and seven grandchildren, Garrett and Davis Schoolfield, Ethan, Carson, and Zoey Robinson, and Alexis and Garrett Dent.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 15, 2014 at 3: 00 pm at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale and Rev. Mike Shumate officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm before the service in the sanctuary.
