The  Greater  Shelby  Community  Theatre  has  honored  John  Bennett   with  the  Opal  Morris  Volunteer  of  the  Year  Award.     The  award  is  named  in  honor  of  a  lady  who  contributed  much  of  her  time and  talents  behind  the  scenes  during  the  early  days  of  the  local  theatre. Bennett  frequently  works  lights  and  sound;  directed the  production  Taffetas;  and  has  served  on  the  theatre’s  board  of  directors. GSCT  President  Joey  Hurdt  commented  that John  Bennett  is  someone  who  is  often  called  upon  and  is  always  willing  to  help. Bennett  is  also  a  playwright,  and  his  work  has  been  performed  by  Lost  Playwrights  in  Hendersonville.
