Joe Donald Costner, Sr.
Fallston - Joe Donald Costner, Sr., 82, of Fallston, passed away, Tuesday, December22, 2015 at Hospice at Wendover.
He was born in Cleveland County on January 13, 1933 to the late David Andrew Costner and Charlcie Roxanne Downs Costner. He was retired from Suburban Propane and was a self-employed agriculture and cattle farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association, and the NC Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Joe was also honored by the Cleveland County Farm Bureau as the Farm Family of the Year in 1991-1992 and then was inducted into the Cleveland County Cattleman's Association's Hall of Fame in 2013.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his five sisters, Minnie Parker, Essie Mae Wortman, Lessie Hastings, Hattie Self, and Frances Matthews.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy Ann Bingham Costner; son, Joe "Chuck" Costner, Jr and wife Jean of Fallston, daughter, Rita Hendrick and husband Tim, of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Joe "Donnie" Costner, III of Fallston, Tracy Lowie and husband James of Honea Path, SC, Christy Edwards and husband Jed of Malabar, FL, and Jenny Tysinger and husband Joey of Shelby, eleven great grandchildren, Joseph Costner, Emma Costner, Gus Lowie, Elijah Edwards, Alex Tysinger, Isaiah Edwards, Sam Lowie, Jacob Tysinger, Jud Lowie, Jeremiah Edwards, and Max Lowie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Black and Dr. Tim Hendrick officiating. A reception will follow the service for family and friends in the church fellowship hall.
A private burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston.
