Lizzie Davis Hudson
She was born in Cleveland County on January 20, 1925, to the late Thurman Buren Davis and Ola Mae Cook Davis. Mrs. Hudson was retired from Dover Yarn Mill as a spinner and was a longtime member of St. Paul Baptist Church. She also attended Hudson Memorial Baptist Church, as her love of singing took her to many churches and brought joy and blessings for endless members of her community. Lizzie never met a stranger. Her door was always open to friends, family, and neighbors who were often treated to a meal or conversation. Either way, they always left feeling full. She was a professional seamstress at several local textile mills and her love for making homemade quilts, clothes, and draperies was widely respected. She always enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower garden. She was a shining light for everyone who was fortunate enough to spend a few precious moments in her presence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Ray Hudson whom she was devoted to for 52 years; son, Dale Hudson, two brothers, Grady Davis and Harold Davis; and a sister, Mamie Cook. She is survived by her sons, Rick Hudson and wife Cecelia of Lawndale and Steve Hudson and wife Glenda of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Ronda Branch, Glen Hudson, Maria Davis, Doyle Hudson, Jason Hudson, Josh Hudson, and Racheal Harris; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of loving nieces and nephews. The family would also like to express a special thanks to White Oak Manor, Shelby for all the care and love given to Mrs. Hudson.
