Mad-Dogs Choose-Up
The Royster Golf Course is located at 850 West Sumter Street in Shelby. It began in 1948 when Dr. and Mrs. S. S. Royster announced the donation of approximately 50 acres of land to the City of Shelby for a new Municipal Park. The land was developed and a nine hole course was dedicated as the Royster Memorial Golf Course as part of the Shelby City Parks and Recreation Department. The course is open 8:00 AM until dusk 364 days a year. It is only closed on Christmas Day. (L-R) Mickey Bell, Lester Robbs, Jimmy Phillips and Dennis Bailey participate in the Mad-Dogs Choose-Up at Shelby City Park. –M. A. Andrews
