Rickie David Stroupe
Cherryville - Mr. Rickie David Stroupe, 71, of S. Elm Street passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center -Main in Charlotte.
Rick was born on July 6, 1945 in Mecklenburg County, NC a son of the late Claude Stroupe and Geneva Stroupe Dulin. He was a graduate of Lincolnton High School, Gaston College and obtained a degree in Electrical Installation and Maintenance from Cleveland Community College. Rick worked for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville and retired as a mail carrier with the U.S. Post office in Cherryville. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville and served the church in many capacities. Rick served in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam and was wounded in Saigon and received the following awards, Combat Action Ribbon for service, Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps Good Conduct medal, National Defense service medal, Vietnam Service medal with two bronze campaign stars, two Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citations, a rifle marksman badge and a sharp shooter award. Rick was a Gold Circle member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. He was also an organ donor.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Ruth Messer; a brother, Tim Dulin and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Will and Viola Eaker.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anita Ray Eaker Stroupe of the home; a daughter, Tonya Stroupe Throckmorton and husband, Mike of Cherryville; a very special granddaughter, Kayla Ray Throckmorton; a sister, Joann Houser of Lincolnton; three nephews, Kevin Houser (Shannon); Teddy Houser (Wendy) and Chad Houser; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Karen Eaker of Terrell; a niece, Lauren Eaker Kale (Logan); great nieces, Lexi and Lilly Kale; also surviving are several great nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 2:00PM to 3:15PM at First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 3:30PM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating.
Military honors provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.
Burial will be Private.
