Ricky Lee McCurry, age 50 died Monday September 16, 2013 as a result of a truck accident in Tennessee. Born on December 23, 1962 in Rutherford County he was the son of the late Lee McCurry and Mildred Ruff Jones. Ricky drove a delivery truck for Merita in the Rutherford County area for 8 years, and for the last 10 years he worked for Southern Shavings in Cherryville. Ricky was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family taking camping trips, fishing, tubing and being outdoors. He loved being with people and was compassionate to others in need. He thought nothing of helping with money or time and always gave of himself. In addition to his father, Ricky is preceded in death by a son, Joshua Lee McCurry.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 25  years, Sheila Gamble McCurry; step mother, Lana Whitworth McCurry of Marion; two sons, Dillon McCurry and fiancée Kenley Burdett of Shelby, and Rick Yelton and wife Astin of Harris; two daughters, Brandy Waters and husband Patrick of Rutherfordton; and Nickie Yelton of Forest City; a brother, Gerald Jones of Blacksburg, SC.; a sister, Tina McGowen of Cowpens SC; six grandchildren, Dominic Carbonetti, Ary McCurry, Cooper Bowen, Addisyn Waters, Bailey Bowen, and Cullen  Waters.; and former wife, Charlene Fernanders of Spartanburg, SC.

A gathering of friends will be held on Friday September 20, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
