Mr. Tommy Douglas Mathis, 54, went to be with His Lord on Friday, April 1, 2010 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Odus and Nellie Lourine Mathis.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brother William Howard and Charlie Lumard Mathis and one sister, Mary Anne Mathis Drewery Ruppe, and a father-in-law, Roba Farrell.

He is survived by a wife, Ann, of the home; by a son, Brian O’Neal Mathis and fiancé Candy Emory and  daughter Arissa Taylor; and by daughter, Amy Mathis Luckadoo; by a sister, Mildred Turner and her husband Vincent of Ellenboro; and by a brother, Jimmy Mathis and wife Bobbie Lou of Boiling Springs, NC.  A mother-in-law, Marsha Farrell of Cherryville, brother-in-law Rusty Farrell and wife Laura; beloved dog, Pixie, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews also survive him.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Doug will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011 with the Rev. Dr. Billy T. Lowe officiating.
