Mrs. Viola M. Burns, 72, of 300 Westlee Street, Shelby, NC passed away   Thursday, April 14, 2011. Services were held at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, Shelby, NC. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burns; her parents, Bert Sturgill and Mable Sturgill; 1 son, David Lee Hodge; her grandmother, Sula Hodge; and 1 brother, Billy C. Sturgill.
She is survived by 1 son, Jerry Hodge of the home; 3 daughters, Peggy Gales and husband Jake, and Robyn Pittillo and husband Steven, all of Shelby, NC, and Donna Wilson of the home; 3 brothers, Wade Sturgill and wife Virginia, and Roger Sturgill, and wife Vickie, all of Sparta, and Bert Sturgill, Jr. and wife Ruth of North Wilkesboro, NC; 3 sisters, Bertha Marlow of Mooresville, NC, Wanda Goad and husband Frank of Hillsville, VA, and Norma Jean Randleman and husband Allen of Yadkinville; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
