Wayne Reavis Receives Best in Show Award
Mr. Reavis gives his account of how he became involved in this art. “About 15 years ago, there was a man at the Cleveland County fair demonstrating a certain brand of scroll saw. I watched him cut the wood and put the pieces together like a puzzle. I ask the man what kind of art he was doing and he replied “this type of art is called Intarsia”. Then he ask for a volunteer from the audience to demonstrate the saw. He chose me to do the demonstration. I did not purchase a scroll saw from him, but I did journey over to the Cleveland Mall and buy one from Sears. From that day on, my love for the scroll saw art kown as Intarsia has grown. I still have some of the first few pieces I made. My desire is to get better with every piece that I construct. Intarsia is the art of “A Mosasic Art of Inlay” using different types of wood with their natural colors, having a certain depth perception.
