She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. Charles Metcalf; children, Janice Metcalf of Lake Norman and Dr. Doug Metcalf and wife, Jeannie of Winston-Salem; granddaughters, Molly Freidinger and (Dr. Brad) of Concord, Dr. Sally Lambeth (Dr. John) of Lewisville, Katy Baker (Brian) of Burlington, and Marcy McAuley (Patrick) of Charlotte; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alene Herron of Maryland.
She lived a life of beautiful service through gardening, art, entertaining, cooking for all who had need and enjoyed fishing. She loved her Methodist Church, was a long devoted member of the choir, and member of the Florene Stiles Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Cherryville Garden Club and was active in Church Circle and the Cherryville Music Club. Through many years of suffering the ravages of arthritis, she remained a bright encouragement to all. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Psalm 116:15
