Wray Vonievear Glenn
Wray Vonievear Glenn, 98, of 204 Cline Street, Lawndale, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
He was born in Cleveland County, on June 3, 1918, to the late Robert Lee Glenn, Sr. and Myrtle Ellen Queen Glenn. He was retired as a Cleveland County Constable and Police Chief for the City of Lawndale. Mr. Glenn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawndale and the Methodist Men. Mr. Glenn served in the Army during W.W.II in the European Theater under General George S. Patton, where he earned a Bronze Star. He was also a member of the Lawndale Lions Club, Upper Cleveland Rescue, Lawndale American Legion and the VFW.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Fortenberry Glenn; a daughter, Kathy Glenn; six brothers, F.H. Glenn, William "Bill" Glenn, Robert Glenn Jr., Newell Glenn, Don Glenn and Alvin Glenn and six sisters, Wilma Bridges, Dorothy McCurry, Margaret Meyers, Blanche Dayberry, Hazel Glenn and Lilly Glenn.
Survivors include a son, Gene Glenn and wife, Judy of Polkville; two daughters, Revonda Wyatt and husband, Larry of Polkville and Donna Thomas of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Marc Glenn, Joseph Glenn, Andy Thomas, Jeff Wyatt and Jenna Mikeal; three great-grandchildren, Joseph Glenn II, Jay Glenn and Sydney Glenn; and a sister, Peggy Fama of Norfolk, Virginia.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston.
A funeral service will be Sunday at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Lawndale with Revs. Rebekah Shuford Ralph and Jim Brackett officiating.
Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites.
