Deborah Mae Parker

Deborah Mae Parker, 68, of 136 Blackwell Road, passed away on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at Wendover Hospice Home in Shelby, NC.

Born in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Parker Sr. and Jennie Mae McDaniel Parker. Deborah retired from teaching. The first part of her career was taught at West Junior High in Gaffney. She then retired as a PE teacher at B.D. Lee Elementary School. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She loved her family. She enjoyed going to the mountains, Dolly Parton, and a variety of gospel music.

Surviving Miss Parker are her brothers, William "Bill" Parker Jr. of Blacksburg and Samuel "Sam" Parker (Paula) of Shelby, NC; her brother-in-law, Paul Whelchel; her nieces, Michelle Whelchel, Emily Walker, and Jessica Moss; her nephews, Michael Whelchel, Brian Whelchel, and Zachary Parker; her special caregiver, Paula Parker; her aunt "special sister", Betty Harrington of Gaffney. She loved all of her great-nieces and great-nephews and host of other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Miss Parker was preceded in death by her sister, Bebe Whelchel.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 27th, 2023, from 2:00-3:00 pm at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 1184 Rock Springs Road, Blacksburg. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor McGaha, Rev. Dale Welch, and Rev. Tyler Moss officiating. Interment will be at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Westley Walker, Michael Whelchel, Brian Whelchel, Aedan Gordon, Dalton Whelchel, Mark McDaniel, and Rick McDaniel will serve as pallbearers. Rev. Tyler Moss and Zachary Parker will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Cleveland County for their loving care during her time there.

The family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 in memory of Deborah Parker.
