George John Henry Wylie

George John Henry Wylie, 86, of 494 Dravo Road, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at his residence.

Born and raised in the Antioch Community, he was the widower of Patty Jo Spake Wylie, to whom he was married for 59 years, and the son of the late Thomas and Jeanette Wilson Wylie. George formerly worked in textiles, having worked at Cherokee Finishing for 41 years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Wylie are his sons, Timothy Wylie (Eva), Mike Wylie (Crystal), and Brian Wylie (Ida); a son and daughter by choice, Roger Turner and Elizabeth Robinson; his sisters, Tommie Ledbetter, Maybell Martin, and Bessie Ledbetter; his seven grandchildren. Harley McDonald (Blake), Dana Jarvis (Damion), Alyssa Jennings (Grayson), Justin Wylie, Hunter Wylie, TJ Wylie, Seth George Wylie, and John Henry Lee "Jake" Wylie; and one great-grandchild, Waylon Jennings.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Wylie was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Wylie, Bill Wylie, and Jack Wylie; his sisters, Mildred McKnight and Betty Moore; and his cousin, but like a brother, Willie Houser.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC. Funeral services will immediately follow in the Chapel at 4:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Allen and Rev. Johnny Mullinax officiating. Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Timothy Wylie, Mike Wylie, Brian Wylie, Justin Wylie, Hunter Wylie, TJ Wylie, Seth Wylie, Jake Wylie, and Roger Turner will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at their respective homes.
