Harry Wayne Carroll, age 83 of Paul H. Beam Rd passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his home. He was born August 24, 1934 in Cleveland County to the late Jesse Lore and Ellen Bryte Sellers Carroll. Harry grew up on Carroll's Dairy and was an Army Veteran of the 27th Engineer Battalion Company B. He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers and was a member of Missionary Methodist Church. Harry enjoyed gardening, Ford race cars, Roush racing and could fix just about anything.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Heavner Carroll; son, Douglas Wayne Carroll; brothers, Robert, James and John Carroll; and sisters, Gertrude Freeman, Helen Carroll, and Louise Carroll.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Mull Woods Carroll; son, Gary Carroll and wife, Jamie; stepson, Eric Woods and wife, Ally; grandchildren, John and Lee Carroll, Ethan, Ensley, and Savannah; brother, Charles Carroll; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear neighborhood friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Randi Godfrey and Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by Cherryville American Legion Post #100. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
