Helen Auten Eaker

Cherryville - Mrs. Helen Auten Eaker, 89, of Old Post Road, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare System - Cleveland.

  1. Eaker was born in Lincoln County, NC on November 13, 1925 a daughter of the late John M. Auten, Sr. and Gertrude Newton Auten. She was retired from the Department of Human Resources in Raleigh as a Social Security Disablilty Claims supervisor and also worked at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cherryville and First United Methodist Church in Charlotte as secretary. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cherryville and WELCA. Mrs. Eaker was a charter member and Past Worthy Matron of Cherryville Chapter #156 Order of the Eastern Star and the Tryon Resolves Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. She was recipient of the coveted Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award signed by Governor James Martin. Mrs. Eaker also enjoyed writing poetry and wrote two books about her and her husband's family history.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Heber G. Eaker; one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna Harrison and Larry of Soddy Daisy, TN; Pam Reddeck and Jim of Indian Trail; six grandchildren and spouses, James and Terri Harrison of Murfreesboro, TN; Dr. Christa and Dr. William Sullins, III of Englewood, TN; Sarah and David Hamilton of Athens, GA; Janie and Dan Owens of Waxhaw, Amanda and Derek Data of Tarpin Springs, FL; Mary and Dante Land of Indian Trail; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Frances Price of Valdese and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Lib" Auten of Cherryville.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30PM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Ronald Fink officiating.

Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
