James "Jim" Marion Rose Sr.

James "Jim" Marion Rose Sr., age 84 died Sunday February 22, 2015 at his home. Born in Gaston County on November 26, 1930 he was the son of the late Francis Marion and Myrtle Beauchamp Rose. Jim moved to Shelby in Jr. High and was a 1949 graduate of Shelby High. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1956. Jim was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for over 70 years and served the church in many ways, including music director of the Hoey Bible Class. He was also a member of the Blowing Rock Methodist Church. Jim worked for Chrysler Corporation, and Carolina Fleets before starting the Leasing Services Inc. in 1971 and Rose Car Company in 1998. Jim supported his community by serving on these various boards; Appalachian State University Trustee, Chairman of the Board for Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Salvation Army Board, Cleveland Community College Foundation, founder and board member of Carolina State Bank, and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #104 and a recipient of the Silver Beaver award, member of Shelby Rotary where he was honored by being named a Paul Harris Fellow. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a son, John Charles Rose, and a brother, Joe Beauchamp Rose.

Precious husband, wonderful father, dear friend to many and "JimJim" to his special grandchildren...to be remembered in our hearts forever are his wife of 59 years, Patsy B. Rose; a daughter, Elizabeth Rose of Rutherfordton; a son, Jim Rose Jr. and wife Carol of Shelby; grandchildren, James Rose III, Leah Rose, and Laura Rose; two brothers, David Rose and wife Claudia of Shelby, and Charles Rose and wife Jane of Mt. Holly; sister-in-law, Iris Beam Rose of Cherryville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Joe Collins and Rev. Linda Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Central United Methodist Church 200 E. Marion St. Shelby, NC 28150; Salvation Army 305 N. Lafayette St. Shelby, NC 28150 or Donor's Choice.
