She was born on December 24, 1922, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late Dule McKinney McFarland and Nell Toney McFarland.  Mrs. Hord nickname Shine came from her happy and bright personality every morning.   Mrs. Hord worked for Hamrick Brothers Store, Dr. Dwight Hord and then retired from Cleveland Mills. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.  Mrs. Hord volunteered for Hospice and was a former member of the Lawndale Woman's Club.  She would light up with excitement with the first snow flake. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas "Tom" Beauford Hord, Jr.; granddaughter, Donna Spangler; and two sisters, Virginia Bertalot and Georgia Wright.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Spangler and husband Buck of Shelby and Sarah Queen and husband Lathan of Lawndale; five grandchildren, Julie Brackett and husband, Mark of Shelby, Jerrianne Queen and husband, Steve McMurry of Lawndale; Jenny McMurry and husband, Bryon of Lawndale, and Paula Casper and husband, Larry of Shelby; two great grandchildren, Yancey McMurry and Selma McMurry both of Lawndale and two sisters, Betty Greene and husband, John of Lawndale and Wray Hoyle of Lawndale.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday 21, 2013 at New Bethel Baptist Church

Funeral: 11:00 AM on Thursday at New Bethel Baptist Church
