Marshall Ballard Smith, 63, of Shelby, passed away May 29, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and grandkids.

Born June 6, 1949 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late T.B. Smith and Retha Carter Smith. He retired from TNS Mills in Spartanburg, SC as a fixer and served in the US Army during Vietnam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Carey Heavner and sister-in-law, Robin Smith.

Survivors include his wife of thirty three years, Cynthia Diane Lankford Smith, daughter & son-in-law, Kimberly & Michael Heavner of Grandbury, TX, three brothers, Tom Smith, Carter Smith & wife, Judy, and Derrell Smith & wife, Amy all of Shelby, two sisters, Judy Glover & husband Robert of Earl and Kathy Simpson & husband Steve of Mooresboro, three grandchildren, Ivy, Jenna, and Michael Heavner II, and three great grandchildren, Avery & Tripp Childers, and Jakovian Coats.

Visitaion will be at Stamey Funeral Home Saturday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM.

The funeral service will be at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel Saturday at 2:00PM with Rev. Jerry Allen officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
