Golfers Granting Wishes
2016 Golfers Granting Wishes sponsorship opportunities: Friday, September 30, 2016, at 1:00pm, at Deer Brook Golf Club. In 2016 Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina will grant the wishes of over 280 children: however there are an additional 200 children within their community still waiting for their wishes to be granted. At an average cost of $6,000 per wish, they need help to make each one a reality. The Teen Talking Circle, Shelby
Imagine you had a safe place to talk about what's really going on inside you- a space where you are listened to and accepted as you are. Teen Talking Circle is a process and support group for girls 12 and up. Some of the topics include developing self-confidence, understanding relationship boundaries, dealing with conflict and self-care for teenagers. Benefits of the group are: improved social skills, learn new ways to cope, find out you aren't alone, gain a broader perspective of your issues, understand what makes your problems worse. The Teen Talking Circle will meet on Saturdays: October 1, October 29, November 5, November 19 and December 10, 2016, at the YMCA in Shelby, NC from 9:30am-11:00am. Saturday, October 1, 2016. "Tree ID Hike" Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0-mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail. Tree identification will be the focus of this hike. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00am. "Skulls & Skins" Look for a Park Ranger and his interesting display of skulls and skins at the Visitor Center. Drop by between 2:00-3:00pm and hear about some of the animals that call South Mountains State Park home.
Sunday, October 2, 2016. "Knot Tying 101" Knot tying is a fundamental skill for many tasks. Whether you are a beginning climber, backpacker or just want to learn a few knots. Join a Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00pm.

Sunday, October 9, 16, 23, 30, 2016. "Fly Fishing 101" Get Hooked! Join anglers Jeff Newton and Bob Tupper at the Visitor Center at 2:00pm for an introductory class on fly fishing. Jeff and Bob are instructors with Project Healing Waters and are members of Trout Unlimited. All class materials will be provided free. Classes may vary based on interest and skill level of the participants. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission fishing regulations still apply.
American Legion Post 82, Shelby
American Legion Post 82, Shelby, NC, will be sponsoring a Veterans Picture Fundraiser on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at the Post which is located at 1628 S. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC. A personalized 8x10 inch color photo for all military branches with choice of military picture backgrounds will be taken for a cost of $15.00, cash or check. All veterans of all military branches are welcome to attend.

Hospice Cleveland County Holiday Meals
Hospice Cleveland County will order Holiday Meals for their patients/families: In Home, Testa Hospice House in Kings Mountain, NC and Wendover in Shelby, NC, that need them. The complete meal includes: 8-10 lbs. Turkey/Ham, 3 sides, rolls, desert and drink. Often, there is simply not enough money, energy and/or desire to get a holiday meal prepared. Educational Series- "Stress Relief & Relaxation" Work. Family. Grief. Illness. Finances. Life. Stress is all around us, being caused by and effecting every facet of our life. Join them to learn some simple and quick tips for dealing with everyday stress. Open to all in the community. This is a continuation in the monthly educational series hosted by Hospice Cleveland County, Tuesday, October 4, 2016, 5:30pm - 6:30pm at the Hospice Cleveland County Administrative Building, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC.
Hospice Volunteer Training Class Hospice training is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about hospice care and the services provided to the community. This 12 hour course is free. To get credit for the entire course, you will need to attend all days at the times offered or call to schedule a time to complete the training. For more information contact 704-487-4677 ext.111. Memory Bear & Pillow Workshop Participants will have the opportunity to make a teddy bear or pillow out of a loved one's short or other article of clothing.
