Rebecca was born on February 26, 1951 in Cleveland County, NC to Freddie Clay and the late Betty Lail Clay.  She worked as a machine operator in manufacturing for many years and also for Knitronics in Cherryville. She enjoyed taking trips to the mountains and was a Baptist. 

     In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, David Lee Hartman.

     Besides her father, survivors include her life companion of 40 years, Max Duncan; one brother, Michael Clay and wife, Kay of Pelzer, SC; two sisters, Vickie Rayfield of Cliffside and Martha Lovelace and husband, Robert of Henrietta; two step-sons, Drew Duncan of Ellenboro and Joel Allen Duncan of San Diego, CA; one granddaughter, Kirsten Hartman of Forest City and several nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Tony Rayfield officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Shelby.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
