Cleveland Community College brings Careers Electric™ initiative to Cleveland County high school students.

Cleveland Community College is proud to announce its participation in Careers Electric™, a workforce initiative launched by the Siemens Foundation to expand access to high-quality electrical training and build the next generation of skilled electrical workers.
According to a February 17 press release from the Siemens Foundation, Careers Electric™ aims to train 25,000 individuals over the next 10 years to address the growing demand for skilled electricians and electrical technicians across the country. North Carolina was selected as the first state for implementation, with the North Carolina Community College System playing a leading role. The initiative is supported by a $9.2 million investment from the Siemens Foundation that will help community colleges across the state offer electrical technology training.
Through this transformative funding, Cleveland Community College will offer a Summer Electrical Academy from June 8 through July 29, 2026, providing high school juniors and seniors in Cleveland County with a direct pathway into a high-demand, high-wage career field.
"This is more than a summer program," said Bruce Mack, vice president of academic affairs at CCC. "It's an opportunity for students to explore a career that offers stability, strong earning potential, and meaningful work in our community."
The eight-week academy will immerse students in hands-on electrical systems technology training while allowing them to earn college credit. They will study residential wiring, and motors and controls. Together, these courses prepare students for entry-level positions in residential electrical construction and electrical maintenance of motors and machinery.
Upon completion, participating students will receive college credit for both classes, and a pre-apprenticeship certificate.
Participating students will receive a $2,000 stipend and, for those who need it, up to $350 in transportation assistance.
Thanks to the Siemens Foundation's investment, CCC can remove financial barriers that often prevent students from exploring technical careers. The stipend and transportation support ensure that students can focus on learning, gaining experience, and envisioning their future in a field that literally powers our communities.
The Summer Electrical Academy is open to all high school juniors and seniors enrolled in Cleveland County, including the County's high schools, Pinnacle Classical Academy, and homeschooled students.
Space is limited to 16 students, who will be selected through an application process. They must attend one of two interest sessions, offered at CCC on March 2 and April 21 at 5:30 p.m.
They can get started by visiting https://clevelandcc.edu/summer-electrical-academy-for-ccp-students/ and filling out the form.
