Roger Dobbins, age 87, of Rutherfordton, died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born April 25, 1928 in Rutherford County, he was a son to the late Henry C. Dobbins and Myrtle Grayson Dobbins. He was a graduate of Harris High School and also graduated from Business College in Shelby. Roger served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Burlington Industries for twenty years before retirement and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rutherfordton. Roger was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-mother, Lavenia Summers Dobbins; daughter, Cindy Camby; two brothers, Ernest and Billy Dobbins and sister, Helen Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Virginia Nell Dobbins; daughter, Janice Cato and husband, Chip of Georgia; brother, Carl Dobbins of Rutherfordton; three granddaughters, Misty Frost and husband, Scott, Emily Worlock and husband, Todd all of Georgia and Jennifer Camby of Forest City. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lily, Wyatt, Jessica and Jacob.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Stephenson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
