William “Bill” Augustus Lynn

William “Bill” Augustus Lynn age 93 of 800 Broad Street died Sunday October 27, 2013. Born in Cleveland County on August 18, 2013, he was the son of the late Fred Hunter and Bonnie Catherine Huffstetler Lynn. He served in the Army during WWII and was a past commander of the Shelby VFW, where he was a member since 1946. He was a former member of Martin Street United Methodist Church and a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. He molded and shaped young men in Shelby for more than 30 years by coaching baseball and football. He was a member of the Cleveland County Sports Hall of Fame, and Shelby City Park dedicated a baseball field in his honor in 2012. He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Glenn Lynn; a daughter, Barbara Lynn Marsh; a grandson, Charles Brandon Marsh Sr.; and friend and companion, Gladys McKnight.

Mr. Lynn is survived by a granddaughter, Laura Agerton and fiancee Jammie Mull of Bessemer City; two great grandsons, Jonathan Jones of Charlotte, and Brandon Marsh Jr. of Shelby; two brothers, Carl Lynn and Richard Lynn and wife Doris all of Shelby; caregiver, Tracy Doster of Bessemer City; and his beloved pets, “Baby” and “Miley”.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 30, 2013 at  2:00 pm  at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Len Byers and Rev. Arthur Holland officiating .  Burial will follow with military honors at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 29, 2013 from 6:00pm until 7:30 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
