Zeb Egland Beam Jr., age 91, died on Monday, January 11, 2016, at his home.

He was born in Shelby, NC, on November 5, 1924, to Zeb Sr. and Ila Bumgarner Beam, the eldest of three sons. His brothers Clyde (Doris Tillman Beam), and Alvin Beam, preceded him in death. His ship, a destroyer escort, served admirably throughout the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Zeb served in management positions at both Tillman Grocery Stores (later Harris-Teeter) and worked twenty-nine years at Fiber Industries. He enjoyed family gatherings at Lake Wylie, SC, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed watching sports, particularly football and baseball.

Zeb married Mary D. Robertson Beam of Shelby, and this February 16, they would have been married for sixty-five years. Also left to honor the memory of Zeb are two sons, Zeb III (Sherri) and their children and spouses Morgan Beam McCraw (Chris) and Zeb IV "Zee" (Lindsey) Beam; and Hicks (Jan) and their children Amanda Davis (Brad), Mary Beam (Ben Hamrick), Rhianda Smith (Eddie Torres), and Carmen Lawson (Blake). Also, the newest additions to the family are great-grandsons Gunnar Beam McCraw and John Hicks Davis.
