Sally Jones

SHELBY- Sally Jones 85, died at Hospice of Wendover, February 25, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones. A native of Mecklenburg County, she was born to the late Walter Horton and Marion Kennedy Horton.
The family would like to thank Life Enrichment Center of Shelby, Summit place of Kings Mountain and Hospice for their love and care of Sally.
Sally was well educated with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Nursing from Emory University in Atlanta. Sally had a distinguished career of being a nurse and director of nursing. She began as a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital and became an Associate of Nursing Director at Charlotte Memorial hospital.
She married the late Julius Troy "JT" Jones, Jr and became a professor at Gardner-Webb University in the Nursing Department. Later she took the Director of Nursing Job at Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby.
After a distinguished Career at Cleveland Memorial Hospital she was the Director of Nursing at Lincoln Memorial Hospital. She was appointed to the Joint Commission to inspect hospitals for rest of her career. She enjoyed that work and tried to look at all Hospitals from a nursing perspective.
Sally was one of the driving forces of Hospice in the beginning when Hospice started in Cleveland County back in 1985. She was a key figure in the planning stages of Hospice. She was one of the first volunteer nurses and on the Board of Directors.
Surviving family members are her son Julius "Troy" Jones III and wife Karan, her grand children, Dr. Jennifer Jones Hickman, husband Dr. Sean Hickman and Julius Troy "JT" Jones IV.

Also daughters Dr. Vista Jones Rainey, husband Mike Rainey and Elizabeth Reid Cook, husband Nathan Cook.
The Jones Family will be receiving friends at Clay-Barnett Funeral Home Saturday, March 3rd, between the hours of 6 pm and 8 pm. All other funeral services and celebrations of Life will be private.
