Alecia Smith Mueller

Alecia Smith Mueller, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, peacefully passed away on December 6, 2024 surrounded by her four loving children.

Alecia was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Mueller, parents Beulah Wellmon Smith and Troy Franklin Smith, Sr., and siblings, Troy, Mike and Linda Smith. She is survived by her children Tylila Nicole Pinkham, Courtney Evanger Loveless, Brian Michael Evanger and Matthew Joseph Mueller, and her granddaughter Siena Loveless.

Alecia was a native of Shelby, NC, and a graduate of Crest High School's class of 1966, where she was salutatorian, an all-conference basketball player, Glee Club pianist, Homecoming Court Attendant and Christmas Parade Princess who was voted most talented and athletic in her class. She went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A proud Tar Heel, she was a lifelong, devoted fan of her favorite college basketball team. With an innate personal magnetism, Alecia had a successful career in life insurance and Medicare supplement sales with Mutual of Omaha, helping many families in the Lowcountry secure their financial future.

Alecia was a resilient, hardworking, detail-oriented woman who loved cats and cared deeply for her family. Her interest in spiritual teachings led her to pursue a program of studies at the Carolina Spiritual Science Center of Spartanburg, SC by which she was ordained as a minister in 2002. She found creative expression through painting, sculpture and writing, and wrote two books dedicated to her family in her later years. Ever the caring counselor, she will be fondly remembered for her humor and encouragement in the face of life's challenges. She will be less fondly remembered for her ruthlessness in Scrabble games, which she generally won. In a trying world, her optimism and endurance was a blessing to her family, friends, and lucky strangers.

A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at Charleston Cremation Center and Funeral Home in Charleston, SC on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 10 AM until 12 noon. On Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Shelby, NC, a 1 p.m. visitation and a 2 p.m. funeral will be held at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory in Shelby, NC immediately followed by an interment ceremony at Cleveland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charleston Habitat for Humanity.
