Anthony Norbert Schafer, age 86, passed away July 4th 2021 at his home in Shelby, NC surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Born on July 3, 1935 in Fowler, Michigan, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dora Schueller Schafer. Tony was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby. He will be remembered having loved to tend to his garden and work around his house as he could fix just about anything needing work. In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by a loving host of five brothers and five sisters.
Tony is survived by his wife of 43 years Rose Green Schafer. One brother, Jerry Schafer, four children, Renee Bennett, Phyllis Powell, Tammy Merideith and her husband Johnny, Barry Camp and his wife Tammy. Nine loving grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Tony is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm - 3:00pm Wednesday July 7, 2021 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory. Private burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery with pastor Jerry Owens officiating the graveside.
