Barbara Jane Murphy Archie

Barbara Jane Murphy Archie was born May 4, 1942 in Cleveland County, to the late Lawrence B. and Effie Browning Murphy.

Barbara was born with Mild Mental Impairment but she never let it hold her hostage or stop her flow...she was exceptionally High Functioning. She attended Cleveland High School. While there, with the loving support and care of her family, she developed outstanding Educational Multi-Level Skills far beyond anyone's expectations. Barbara enjoyed and excelled at Reading, Writing, Spelling, Arithmetic and managing her Daily Living Skills. Barbara was a Conversationalist at heart she could maintain focus on any subject, Bible, News, Politics, Current Events. She had an awesome mind and memory... recall she knew everybody's phone number and birthdates in the family and some of her friends. She did not have to check the calendar to know what holiday fell on a particular day. Barbara was highly verbal; she could express her likes, dislikes and desires. Barbara operated throughout her life with no expectation or need for special privileges at home, school or at work.

After graduating from Cleveland High School-1960, Barbara held many jobs as a Baby-Sitter in the Community and for family in Winston Salem, NC. She also worked as a Volunteer for Goodwill Industries, Shelby, NC and Winston, NC.

Barbara was fun-loving, a lover of her family and people in general, especially her brother, Frank and all of her nieces, Pam, Karen, Deborah, Lesa, Kim, Lori and nephews, Michael, William, Gerald, Fitzgerald, Quinn, Embry, Lee, Frank and Jonathon, all were her heart. She loved making you laugh... a natural comedian. Some of her favorite pastimes were talking on the phone, watching the Young and The Restless and Deal or No Deal, especially reading her Bible and praying for the whole world. If you had confidential papers, please don't lay them down near Barbara... they were sure to become "headline" news.

Barbara was a faithful member of Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Shelby, NC under the Leadership of Dr. and Pastor J. A. White. In her early childhood, Barbara confessed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Him as her Personal Lord and Saviour, she was a Junior Member of the Junior Choir and served on the Junior Usher Board. She later joined Faith Missionary Baptist Church with her Mother under the Leadership of Pastor Zeno Borders, followed by Dr and Pastor Negbenebor to present.

Later in life, Barbara entered into marriage to the late George Archie.

On October 1, 2023 our hearts were broken when our dearest Barbara transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal home. Barbara left a beautiful everlasting impression and impact on the lives of those who met her. A very sweet fragrance that will remain with all that knew and loved her forever.
