Betty Estep Ray, age 84, of Forest City, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby.
Betty was born Sunday, October 23, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Zonie Estep and Florence Pintuff Estep. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1957.
She worked in textiles and wood manufacturing for many years before retirement. Betty was a faithful lifetime member of Henrietta First Baptist Church where she served on the Kitchen Committee and was dedicated to her Sunday School class. She enjoyed shopping, camping and in her younger years was an excellent basketball player. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, David Daniel Ray; sister, Margaret Hines; brothers, James, Dan and Perry Estep and a nephew, Michael Estep.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Johnny Ray (Rebecca) of Forest City, Terry Ray of Forest City, Dwayne Ray (Elizabeth) of Shelby; grandchildren, David Ray (Chelsie), Ashley Ray, Savannah Ray (Jeremy); great-grandchildren, Aleigha Ray and Ellie Ray and special friends, Rachel Clayton, Denise Waters, Kaye Towery and Helen Anderson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 17th at Henrietta First Baptist Church with Reverend James Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 pm prior to service time at the church.
