Bobby Gene Swink

Bobby Gene Swink, 65 of 988 Davids Chapel Church Road, Lawndale passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at his residence.

Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late James Henry Swink and Flossie Tallent Swink. He attended North Brook and West Lincoln, was employed for many years by Jim Walter Homes, but worked mostly for himself supplying roofs, utility buildings, and play houses for many in Western North Carolina. He was an expert carpenter, an amateur genealogist, gemologist, gardener, and herbalist, an avid reader, an eternal scholar, never met a stranger and would talk to a fencepost. Stubborn to a fault he would rather be wrong and never admit it than be right and compromise. This is also the tenacity with which he loved.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Swink and Daniel Swink; three sisters, Faye Swink, Frances Smith and Annette Swink; grandson, Beydn Swink.

Survivors include two sons, SFC Josh Swink and wife Annie of Carthage, NY and Jeff Swink of Shelby; daughter, Jennifer Jewett and husband Randy of Durham; six grandchildren, Caleb, Layla, Maggie, and Jonas Swink, Tate Jewett and Kendall Swink; brother, James Junior Swink of Lawndale; and four sisters, Ruth Swink of Lawndale, Pauline Swink of Lawndale, Ruby Jenkins of Lincolnton and Minnie Jenkins of Lincolnton.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM-8:00 PM Wednesday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home

A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Davids Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Cathy Turman officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
