Broadus Eugene Heatherly

Broadus Eugene Heatherly, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Atrium Health Cleveland Hospital in Shelby, NC. He was born on September 10, 1930, in Union County, SC, to the late Joseph Paul Heatherly and Sunnie Henson Heatherly.

Broadus attended North Greenville College, Charleston Southern University, and the South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Pastoral Care. He also studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He faithfully served Southern Baptist churches and communities in South Carolina and North Carolina for 35 years, with his most recent ministry at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Shelby.

After retiring from the pulpit, Broadus continued his lifelong commitment to helping others by working as a counselor for Cleveland County Mental Health and Kings Mountain Hospital. His deep compassion and unwavering faith touched countless lives.

In addition to his parents, Broadus was preceded in death by his sons, Terry Heatherly and Robert Adkins III; his sisters, Lucendia Arnold and Jessie Heatherly; his brothers, Ralph Heatherly, S.J. Heatherly, Paul Heatherly Jr., and Herbert Heatherly; and his grandson, Matthew Thomas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Cooper Heatherly; his daughters, Cheryl Billings (James) of Blacksburg, SC, and Charlotte Sinclaire of Durham, NC; his daughter-in-law, Glenda Adkins of Zionville, NC; his sister, Aileen Quinn of Jonesville, SC; eight grandchildren; Michael Billings (Katie), Eric Billings, Joseph Heatherly (Caroline), Cole Heatherly (Anna), Alex Heatherly, Morgan Heatherly, Jennifer Adkins Hupp, Joseph "Mikey" Adkins and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2025, in the sanctuary of New Hope Baptist Church in Earl, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor Russ Bradley, Pastor Tim Trexler and Pastor Darrel Revels officiating.

A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
