Cecil Bell

Cecil Bell, 79, of 828 East Cherokee Street, arrived at his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Born in Blacksburg, SC, he was the husband of Christine Lee Bell and the son of Mack Lee and Cora Lanier Bell. Cecil retired from Timken Company Gaffney Plant after 32 years and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church of Blacksburg. He has worked approximately 30 years at Gordon Mortuary. He served in the Blacksburg and CKC Volunteer Fire Departments for approximately 60 years. He was a former Assistant Chief and Secretary for the Blacksburg VFD. He was a member of the Cherokee County Fire Chief Chaplain Team. He was Active Safety Officer at both fire departments. He was instrumental in getting the first ambulance stationed in Blacksburg.

Surviving Cecil are his son, Michael Bell (Kristi); his granddaughters, Emily Bell and Mara Grace Bell; and his sisters, Shirley B. Hardin, Betty B. Roach, Patricia B. Ligon, and Brenda L. Earls.

In addition to his wife and his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth B. Estes, and his brothers, James L. "Shorty" Bell and Raymond L. Bell.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, 121 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC with Rev. Eric Sellers and Rev. Tim Knotts officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Timmy Brown, Tim Wisher, Keith Manning, Eddie Hardin, Jarrod Willis, Eric Stacy, Caleb Martin, and Terry Ziegler will serve as pallbearers. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, All Firemen, and the staff of Gordon Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Handyman Ministry, c/o Terry Martin, 202 Plonk Street, Blacksburg, SC 29702 or to the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, 104 East Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC 29702.

The family will be at the residence.
