Charles Newland Humphries

Charles Newland Humphries, 84, died Thursday, October 5, 2023 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.

Born in Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Avery and Nora Batson Humphries. Charles served in the National Guard and worked many years as a Brick Mason, later retiring from Eaton Corp. after 22 years of service. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing on the Santee Cooper. He also had a great love for cutting wood. He was a devout Christian and was the former Choir Director at Piedmont Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Todd McSwain Sr.; brothers, Hubert, Lawrence and James Humphries; and sister, Brenda Carrigan. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda Oliver Humphries of the home; son, Todd Humphries and wife Michele of Boiling Springs; daughter, Lynn Black of Patterson Springs; sisters, Jean Grass and Selena Shuffler and husband Doug, both of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Jeffrey McSwain Jr., Tylor Boone, Matthew Humphries, Ashley McSwain, Bailey Watson and Cody Humphries; great-grandchildren, James, Hunter, Peyton, Jak and Waylon. The family will receive friends 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.
