Dennis Gordon

Dennis Gordon, 75 of Stoney Point Road, Shelby, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Atrium Health - Cleveland, Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County, on October 1, 1948, he was the son of the late Henry Columbus Gordon and Ocie Grigg Gordon. Dennis served his life with a focus on his family and community often putting others before self. While he began his early career with Goforth Brothers and later Kemet Electronics, he was most proud of his personal entrepreneurial endeavors, which were many in number. After retirement from his public jobs, Dennis was a partner with his brother in Gordon Brothers Farms. There they enjoyed reliving their early days farming, raising registered Black Angus Cows and chickens for Case Farms. In service to his community, he was a volunteer at Washington Elementary and Waco Middle School, establishing fundraising drives to furnish air conditioners for the classrooms. Dennis also chaired and volunteered to build houses for Habitat for Humanity in the Washington and Stoney Point Community. He was a member of the Cleveland County Cattleman's Association and former member of Waco Ruritan Club and Waco VFD Board of Directors. Dennis was a lifelong member of Beulah Community Church, formerly Beulah United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Gordon and infant sister.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheilia Vess Gordon; two sons, Kevin Gordon and wife, Sherry and Brent Gordon and wife, Heidi all of Shelby; daughter, Dr. Lori Hendrick and husband, Dr. Joseph Hendrick, Jr. of Shelby; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Freeman, Alex Gordon and wife, Macy, Zachary Gordon and wife, Ann Marie, Brandon Gordon Freeman, AJ Gordon and Zane Gordon; five great grandchildren, Logan Freeman, Elliott Gordon, Kipton Gordon, Wyatt Gordon and Magnolia Gordon and two nephews, Bryan Gordon and wife, Kristin and their son, Lane Evans and Matt Gordon and wife, Angel and their son, Henry.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Beulah Community Church Cemetery with the Rev. John Blalock officiating.
