Donovan Lamarr Grimes, 56, of Shelby, NC passed away July 18, 2024 at Wendover Hospice House, Shelby NC.

He was born April 13, 1968, in Shelby, NC to the late Clifford Grimes Jr. and Betty Jeanette Byrd Grimes.
Donovan attended Burns High School. Donovan was loved by many. He enjoyed music, spending time with family, friends and his children and grandchildren. Donovan loved riding bikes, telling stories and making people laugh.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents Clifford Grimes Sr., Mozell Clements Grimes, Fred Byrd Sr., Louise Blair Byrd and his nephew, Shamarr Howell.
Donovan leaves to cherish his children, Clinton Mitchell (Yaminah) of Kingstown, NC Shakera Mitchell (Deshauwn) of Kingstown, NC, Julius Wilson of Shelby, NC, Tandra Surratt of Gastonia, NC. In addition to his children, one Sister Katrina Chamberlain(Donald) of Fort Worth Texas; two uncles, Willie J Grimes of Lawndale, NC, Frank Byrd of Hickory, NC; four aunts, Gladys Perkins of Kings Mountain, NC, Martha Shade and Annie Ruth Goforth both of Kingstown,NC, Mattie Vinson of Lawndale, NC; nine grandchildren, Aubrey, Kinsley, Deshawn, Jackson, Jovanni, Cassidy, Imanii, Karmen and Haven; one niece, Kenyadatta of Hawaii; two great nieces and two great nephews; a life partner of 33 years Cynthia Sarratt; and a special friend Lloyd Williams.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Shelby, NC at 2:00 p.m..
