Dorothy Ann Hamrick Hendrick

Dorothy Ann Hamrick Hendrick, 94, left this earth for her heavenly home on March 9, 2025 at her home with her family there for Sunday lunch, just the way she liked it. Born in Shelby, NC on January 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Elizabeth Hamrick. Dot was also preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles Hendrick; her daughter, Sandy Griffin; and her son-in-law, Paul Szymborski Jr.

Dot grew up in the Lily Mill Village and worked in the office there for a time after graduating from Shelby High School. She also worked at J & C Dyeing and in the offices of Dr. John Crow and Dr. Jack Hamrick. She first and foremost loved being with her family and friends. She loved baking for others, especially her famous Chocolate Pies. She was a voracious reader and would finish most books in a day. She and her sister loved to walk and walk and walk....... She loved trips to the beach and sitting outside at home in her swing or rocking chair. Over the last six years, she loved making friends at Life Enrichment Center. Dot was a longtime member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church and a member of the Barringer Sunday School Class and various other church organizations throughout the years.

Dot is survived by her sister, Pat Darty; her daughter Jane Szymborski; her daughter Patti Thompson and husband John; son-in-law Walt Griffin; six grandchildren, Charlie Szymborski and wife Samantha Leonard, Tracy Szymborski and fiancé Michael Shope, Lee Ann Morris and husband John, Wilson Griffin, Hannah Barker and husband Brad, Michael Thompson and wife Breanna; six great grandchildren David Szymborski, Will Szymborski, Cooper Shope, Olivia Morris, Tripp Thompson and Lily Morris; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank Dot's compassionate and loving caregivers over the past 4½ years: Betty Towery, Chris Smith, Debbie Vaughan, Keisha Bell, Kenya Robinson, Emily Rountree. It would not have been possible to keep her at home without them. We also want to thank Mona, Lynn, Tina and Bryon who would be there at a moment's notice to help if needed.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church at 4:00 pm officiated by Pastor Kathy Houser. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Life Enrichment Center, 110 Life Enrichment Blvd. Shelby, NC 28150; or to Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1073, Shelby, NC 28151. Funeral services are entrusted to Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and Aquamation Center. www.claybarnette.com
