Dorothy Sain Leatherman

Dorothy Sain Leatherman, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on the last day of the year 2024, December 31, at the venerable age of 92.

Born on April 10, 1932, in Cleveland County, Dorothy's life journey began as the cherished daughter of Frank McCoy Sain and Fannie Cleo Pruett Sain. She grew up enveloped in a large, loving family which laid the foundation for her own role as a devoted matriarch.

Dorothy's legacy is lovingly carried on by her three sons, Larry Leatherman and his wife Sandra of Lincolnton, Albert Leatherman and his wife Florence of Marion, and Charlie Leatherman, Jr., and his wife Kimberly of Nebo. She will also be fondly remembered by her two brothers, Colon Sain of Vale and Bobby Sain of Hickory, and a sister, Joann Wise of Vale. The blessings of her lineage include nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren who will treasure the memories and lessons she imparted.

The heavens welcomed Dorothy back into the arms of those who preceded her in death, including her beloved husband of seventy-four years, Charlie Fletcher Leatherman, Sr., her parents, and her nine brothers, Paul, Harold, Hugh, Ralph, Horace, Jimmie, Melvin, Warren, and Kenneth Sain, and a sister, Gladys Hull.

She was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Her remarkable journey through life, marked by dedication to her family and friends, was paralleled by a fulfilling career in the textile industry.

The family will receive friends 2:00 Pm to 3:30 PM Friday, January 3, 2025, Reeps Grove United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 3:30 PM at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Mahaffey officiating.

The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
