Edward John "Sonny" Wright, age 74, passed away Saturday February 19, 2022 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Born in Cleveland County on August 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Coleman Edward and Thelma E. Wright. A native of Grover, Sonny was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church. He worked for Porter Brothers as a mechanic for 18 years and retired from the River Bend Golf Course maintenance department after 17 years. Sonny loved spending time at any flee market and found joy in bringing home newfound treasures to his family.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Fortenberry Wright, his two sisters, Judy W. Wiggins (Earl) of Kings Mountain, NC, and Jo Ann W. Caroll (Steve) of Cowpens, SC. Sonny is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and special nephew, Erik Simpson (Liz) of Bessemer City, NC.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at The Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Reese English officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Cleveland Memorial Park.
