Etta Barber, age 88, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her home in Shelby. Born May 18, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Edward McFarland and wife Irene Jackson McFarland. She retired from Dover Mill where she worked in the spinning department. Etta was a longtime member of John Knox Presbyterian Church and enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Etta was preceded in death by her husband John Robert Barber and three sisters Leila Costner, Marie Collins, and Lillian Ericson and one brother, William McFarland.

Etta is survived by her daughter Shelia Jernigan of Shelby and her son Robby Barber and wife Kim of Shelby, five sisters; Ophelia Underhill, Helen Lane, Mildred Blanton and husband Carroll, Jewell Greene, and Frances Costner and husband Michael. Four grandchildren, Adrianne Styles, Melissa Barber, Jessica Hoopaugh and husband Chris, Tonya Wacaster and husband David, nine great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday 16, 2018 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Deborah Lesenger officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the fellowship hall from 1 pm until 2 pm. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park cemetery.
